Key Duties

The village treasurer is responsible for managing the village's financial operations and records. 

  • Receiving all money belonging or directed by law to be paid to the village.
  • Depositing all village funds into a board-designated public depository upon receipt, with failure to do so serving as grounds for removal from office.
  • Paying out village funds only through a written order signed by the president and countersigned by the clerk.
  • Maintaining precise, detailed accounts of all financial transactions and preserving all official vouchers.
  • Providing an account and settlement of official transactions to the board at its final meeting before the annual election, or whenever requested by the board.
  • Handing over all official books, papers, property, and funds to their qualified successor.
  • Managing a single general fund in the treasury unless otherwise specified.
  • Exercising the same tax collection powers, duties, liabilities, and penalties as a town treasurer upon receiving the tax roll.
